Kongsberg PCS nomina un nuovo dirigente, a conferma del proprio impegno nel campo dell’automazione
Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems ha nominato Nimil David nuovo Product Manager for Automation and Robotics, confermando il proprio impegno nello sviluppo di soluzioni avanzate dedicate all’automazione. David è operativo presso il sito di produzione Kongsberg PCS a Brno, in Repubblica Ceca, e intende sfruttare la sua profonda conoscenza ed esperienza tecnica per consentire ai clienti di massimizzare l’efficienza e la produttività grazie all’automazione.
“Sono davvero entusiasta di entrare a far parte del team in un momento così importante – ha dichiarato Nimil David –. Il recente lancio del nuovo Kongsberg Ultimate ha dimostrato che il mix di potenza, precisione e automazione è in grado di offrire un livello incredibile di produttività senza scendere a compromessi in termini di qualità. Permette inoltre di alzare il rendimento di un’azienda. Nella mia nuova mansione intendo collaborare con il team per cercare di raggiungere livelli simili di automazione e ottimizzare la produttività in tutte le linee dei nostri prodotti”, ha aggiunto David.
Frank Adegeest, VP Product Strategy and Business Processes per Kongsberg PCS, si dice molto soddisfatto per il nuovo incarico a David. “Nimil David ha una lunga esperienza e una notevole competenza tecnica, oltre a uno sconfinato entusiasmo, e la sua nomina sottolinea come Kongsberg ritenga importante l’automazione per il futuro – spiega Adegeest –. Siamo convinti che Nimil offrirà un enorme contributo al team e allo sviluppo delle tecnologie, con vantaggi tangibili per i nostri clienti”.
L’alimentatore-impilatrice automatico e il robot per la gestione dei materiali, entrambi a marchio Kongsberg, sono due preziosi alleati per i produttori. L’eliminazione di ogni intervento manuale tra i vari passaggi non solo aumenta la velocità e la precisione nell’individuazione e nella rimozione dei materiali, ma evita eventuali errori umani che possono comportare danni e sviste costose.
“Per quanto riguarda il futuro, i clienti si concentrano soprattutto sull’automazione – osserva David –. È quindi anche una nostra priorità, poiché siamo un’azienda incentrata sul cliente. Vogliamo sviluppare soluzioni che permettano ai produttori di esprimere tutto il loro potenziale”.
David ha sottolineato che, per far comprendere i vantaggi dell’automazione, basta documentarne la semplicità e i risultati straordinari.
“Vivo e lavoro a Brno dal 2015, pertanto conosco bene lo stabilimento Kongsberg PCS – aggiunge –. Oltre a essere il cuore pulsante della produzione, ospita anche il reparto Ricerca e sviluppo automazione, ed è quindi un ambiente davvero interessante e coinvolgente.
“I clienti vogliono vedere questa entusiasmante tecnologia in azione – spiega David –, così intendiamo integrare al nostro sito di produzione un centro dimostrativo specifico per le nostre soluzioni robotiche, dove i clienti possano toccare con mano e provare il sistema automatizzato che proponiamo. Possono inviarci i propri file e noi eseguiamo una demo dal vivo dei loro prodotti effettivi.
I clienti hanno così l’opportunità di vedere non solo la qualità eccezionale che possono ottenere, ma anche come è possibile incrementare la produttività complessiva.
“Uno degli obiettivi principali dell’automazione consiste nel migliorare la produttività – aggiunge David –. I test di Kongsberg PCS hanno dimostrato che, in teoria, una soluzione di gestione robotica dei materiali con configurazione a due tavoli è in grado di aumentare di almeno quattro volte la produttività, a seconda di altri fattori. Oltre a questo, anche la qualità è importante.
Ogni soluzione automatizzata deve fare in modo che la movimentazione del millesimo foglio sia identica a quella del primo, garantendo sia uniformità che velocità”.
David ha evidenziato l’importanza di una fase preliminare, in cui il team Kongsberg PCS e il cliente lavorano insieme per verificare che l’automazione sia la chiave giusta per massimizzare la produttività e ottimizzare il ritorno sull’investimento.
“In questa fase esaminiamo tutte le specifiche e i parametri – spiega David –. Non vendiamo solo una macchina, ma cerchiamo di sviluppare l’intero processo. Controlliamo se ci sono limitazioni nel sito di produzione, ad esempio a livello di pavimento o nell’altezza del soffitto, o se l’impianto ha la flessibilità per apportare le modifiche necessarie per accogliere un braccio mobile del robot per la gestione dei materiali”.
“Non ci limitiamo alla vendita e alla consegna – aggiunge –. Aiutiamo a tracciare una mappa dell’intero reparto di produzione del cliente, compresa la posizione dell’armadio elettrico, per garantire che ci sia spazio sufficiente per la cella robotica”.
Dal momento che l’automazione e la robotica rappresentano un investimento significativo, David puntualizza che la fase di test e pianificazione consente ai clienti di fidarsi completamente della configurazione proposta.
“Devono essere sicuri di conseguire l’aumento di produttività per il quale hanno investito il proprio denaro – spiega –. L’importanza che diamo a questa fase propedeutica sottolinea anche la nostra totale fiducia nei vantaggi di un sistema automatizzato”.
Nimil David parteciperà insieme ai colleghi di Kongsberg PCS alla prossima edizione di drupa, dove presenterà i recenti sviluppi relativi all’alimentatore-impilatrice e al robot per la gestione dei materiali.

Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems has underlined its commitment to developing advances in automation with the appointment of Nimil David as its new Product Manager for Automation and Robotics. Based at the Kongsberg PCS production site in Brno, Czech Republic, Nimil will use his deep knowledge and technical expertise to achieve the company’s goal of empowering customers to maximize efficiency and productivity through automation.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the team at such an exciting time – said Nimil –.
The recent launch of the new Kongsberg Ultimate showcased how the combination of Kongsberg power and precision with automation can deliver incredible throughput speeds without compromising on accuracy and quality. It moves the benchmark in productivity, and in my new role I am looking forward to working with the team to determine how to achieve similar levels of automation to maximize productivity across all our product lines,” he said.

The Kongsberg automated Feeder and Stacker and Robotic Material Handler deliver significant benefits to converters. The removal of any manual handling between steps not only increases speed and accuracy of locating and removing materials, but also eliminates any chance of human error that can lead to damage and costly errors.
“As customers look to the future of their own businesses, they are really focusing on automation – said Nimil –. That is something we want to prioritize as a customer-centric business, ensuring we are developing solutions that inspire converters to maximize their own potential.”
Nimil said demonstrating the ease and impressive results of automating processes was key to understanding the benefits. “I’ve lived and worked in Brno since 2015, so am very familiar with the Kongsberg PCS facility – he said –. As well as being the hub of production, it’s also the home of the Automation R&D department, so there is a lot of very cool stuff here.”
“Customers want to see this exciting technology in action – he said –, so we’re looking to make the facility more of a dual purpose destination, creating a demo center specifically for our robotic solutions, where we bring customers so they can see and experience the automated system firsthand. They can send their files to us, we can run a live demo of their actual products and they can see for themselves not only the fantastic quality they can achieve, but also the increase in their throughput and overall productivity.”
“One of the primary goals of automation is to increase productivity – added Nimil –. Kongsberg PCS testing has shown that, in theory, a robotic material handling solution with dual table setup can increase productivity up to four times, dependent on other factors. Alongside that increased throughput, quality is also of paramount importance – any automation should ensure that the handling of the thousandth sheet is the same as the first, delivering consistency as well as speed.”
Nimil emphasized the importance of a discovery phase, in which the Kongsberg PCS team and customer jointly examine and ensure that automation is the right solution to maximize throughput and achieve the best return on investment.
“In the discovery phase we look at all the specifications and parameters – said Nimil –. We’re not just selling a machine, we’re helping to develop the whole process. We look at whether there are any limitations in the facility, either in the immediate environment like the floor or height of the ceiling, or whether the location has the flexibility to make requisite changes to accommodate a moving arm of a Robotic Material Handler.”
“We don’t just deliver a robot and say, ‘off you go’ – he said –. We help map out the layout of the customer’s whole production room or shop floor, down to the location of the electrical cabinet, to ensure they can accommodate the robotic cell.”
As automation and robotics represent a significant investment, Nimil said this testing and planning phase allows the customer to have 100% confidence in the setup.
“They need to know it is going to deliver the productivity gains they are investing in achieving – he said –. Our insistence on this phase underlines our own confidence in the benefits of the automated system – and it delivering just that.”
Nimil will be joining his Kongsberg PCS colleagues at drupa later this year, where he will be discussing the latest developments to the Feeder and Stacker and Robotic Material Handler.
